RD Management Adds Approximately 40,000 Square Feet to Academy Plaza in Huntsville, Alabama

RD Management LLC, one of the nation’s largest privately held real-estate development and management organizations, announced today that it will be expanding Academy Plaza in Huntsville, Alabama by approximately 40,000 square feet. The newly-constructed building will be complete by early 2018. RD Management is looking to pre-lease the space to a junior-box tenant who will join Academy Sports + Outdoors at the center.

Academy Plaza’s location allows visibility to both Memorial Parkway SW & Drake Avenue SW, two major thoroughfares in the city of Huntsville. The center is situated opposite Parkway Place Mall, a popular shopping destination with tenants that include Dillard’s, Belk, Ann Taylor, Lens Crafters, American Eagle Outfitters, Chico’s, and Carrabba’s Italian Grill. Academy Sports + Outdoors opened April 28 and occupies 62,943 square feet of the 99,688-square-foot center, which offers 473 parking spaces for shoppers.

“We are quickly building momentum at Academy Plaza, demonstrated by the well-trafficked and exciting grand opening of Academy Sports + Outdoors,” said Richard Birdoff, principal and president of RD Management. “It was always our plan to develop the space adjacent to Academy and offer the Huntsville community a complementary, national retailer. We are moving quickly to fill the space and look forward to announcing a new tenant in the coming months.”

Academy Plaza is one of two properties owned by RD Management in Alabama, with the other being 3.29 acres of vacant land that is available for sale or lease in Hartselle. The company’s national portfolio consists of more than 150 properties spanning the mixed-use, retail, office, residential, hospitality, self-storage, senior/student housing, industrial, and government sectors.
