Furniture Mall of Texas to occupy 95,000 square feet at the shopping center
RD Management LLC, one of the nation’s largest privately held real-estate development and management organizations, announced today it has signed a lease with the Furniture Mall of Texas at its Shops at Tech Ridge in Austin, Texas. The 95,000-square-foot Furniture Mall of Texas is scheduled to open in the summer of 2020. Lance Morris and PJ Kaminer of The Retail Connection represented RD Management in the deal.
“With the recent shift of young professionals to Austin, and talks of the city becoming the next Silicon Valley thanks to the emerging presence of tech companies such as Google and Apple, Austin provides tremendous opportunity for retail,” said Richard Birdoff, principal and president of RD Management. “As the economy grows, it is our goal for Shops at Tech Ridge to be a go-to center for residents and employees. We’re proud to welcome the Furniture Mall of Texas which will enhance our current tenant mix and appeal to the community’s home furnishing needs.”
The Furniture Mall of Texas will be the third location for co-owners Jeff and Jamie Winter. As owners of two other Furniture Mall locations in Kansas City, they are partnering with local Austin furniture retailers, Dan Anthony, Brian Morgan and Travis Morgan, for their Austin store. The new store will fill the balance of the former Super Target and be situated next to Floor & Decor. The new tenant joins, among others, Fitness Connection, Conn’s HomePlus, Ross Dress for Less, Burke’s Outlet, and PetSmart at the center.
“We’re thrilled to bring our new furniture store concept to a booming market like Austin,” said owner Dan Anthony. “As one of the largest furniture stores in Austin, we’re confident there will be something for everyone at the Furniture Mall and we look forward to being in the same shopping center as like-minded businesses such as Floor & Decor and Conn’s HomePlus. The Austin community will undoubtedly benefit from the one-stop destination for all of their furniture and home décor shopping.”
Shops at Tech Ridge is a 519,354-square-foot power center located on I-35 North, just a 15-minute drive from downtown Austin. Shops at Tech Ridge is within one mile of Parmer Innovation Center, an extensive business park where GM, Dell, Home Depot, 3M Corp., Natera, Allergan, and Blue Apron are tenants. Within close proximity to the center will be the highly anticipated St. David’s Performance Center, Austin FC’s new $45 million, 23-acre training facility. The 129-acre high tech office campus at 7700 Parmer Lane which includes tenants such as eBay, PayPal, Electronic Arts, Polycom, Deloitte, and D&B is also close by. Adding to the booming tech scene, Apple recently broke ground on a $1 billion campus that will open in 2022 and employ 15,000 people.
